About Us
TREE takes its origin in Pandapilly, a countryside in Arakuzha village of Muvattupuzha Taluk in Ernakulam district of Kerala state, the southernmost tip of India. Keralam is a beautiful strip of Greenland situated on the shores of the Arabian sea. Western Ghats (Sahyadri) mountains which are the region of the world's rarest rainforests and unique ecosystems form its eastern boundary. The landscape is a beautiful mix of mountains, valleys, plain paddy fields, lakes, backwaters, and beautiful beaches. Kerala's natural beauty and resources attracted travellers and traders from different parts of the world since time immemorial. The National Geographic channel lists her as one of the '10 paradises of Earth' that one must visit in life. Kerala tourism department qualifies her as 'God's own Country’.
A short history
TREE is the continuation of a movement started in December 2002. It is the symbol of unity and extended neighborhood in a village. Many hectares of land, acquired for MVIP canal construction, later dumped with muck, had been left as wastelands. With the support and initiative of Pandappilly National Library (est. 1947) volunteers and villagers, a club was registered in the name 'Nattuvettam - Gramasakyam.' Some muck-dumped areas were leveled and developed for volleyball and badminton courts. A small hill formed by dumping the tunnel mucks had been landscaped and planted 'Nalpamara' (country fig, ficustinctiria peepal and Banyan) and named that hill 'Nalpamarakkunnu'. It was the humble beginning of a ‘People's medicinal tree garden', now spreading its greenery everywhere.
